Learning Analytics: information for participants

This page explains the Learning Analytics choice you are asked about in KlickerUZH. The full description of how we process your data is available in the privacy policy. This page is also available in German.

Two independent, voluntary choices

KlickerUZH asks you to decide on two purposes independently of each other:

  • Research: whether your usage and learning data may be used without direct identifiers for research and teaching projects of the University of Zurich. You can object at any time.
  • Learning Analytics (LA): whether your data may be used for the Learning Analytics features described below.

Both choices are voluntary. Declining a purpose does not restrict your access to courses, quizzes, points, or assessments. You can change both choices at any time in the settings of your KlickerUZH account.

What Learning Analytics covers

Learning Analytics is designed to support the understanding of how a course group learns. Once available:

  • Participants see insights into their own learning, for example their progress and performance in a course.
  • Lecturers see de-identified and aggregated group values, for example the weekly activity of a course or aggregated quiz results. Lecturer views contain no per-student performance or progress rows.

Current availability

The Learning Analytics features described on this page are not yet enabled. Your choice is recorded now and applies as soon as the features become available. Until then, no Learning Analytics data is collected for you.

Operational and assessment data

This choice concerns only the optional Learning Analytics use of your data. The data that is needed to run your account, to conduct and evaluate courses and activities, and, in an assessment, for grading, inspection, and traceability is processed independently of this choice. It remains available to authorized lecturers regardless of your choice. The privacy policy describes this in detail.

Saving and changing your choice

In the KlickerUZH app, you find both choices in your profile settings, in the section "Research and learning analytics". They apply to your entire KlickerUZH account and can be changed at any time. If you turn Learning Analytics off, the Learning Analytics data recorded for you is deleted automatically; responses and points that are needed to run the course remain.

The guest-account notice and choice settings for course chatbots are planned for a separate update.
